Valley Fever is a fungal infection seem mostly in the Southwest states of the United States.
Caused by the fungus coccidioidomycosis, patients may present with pneumonia symptoms such as cough, fever and shortness of breath.
In my experience, patients will return over and over for more antibiotics before a diagnosis is made. A sputum culture testing for a fungus is required.
The treatment is an anti-fungal (not an antibiotic) such as fluconazole.
