Neurocysticercosis is an illness due to the ingestion of a pork tapeworm called Taenia Solium. Most commonly, this tapeworm taenia resides in the muscle. However, it may travel to the central nervous system causing seizures, paralysis and/or mental status changes. A common finding upon examination is papilledema (swelling in the back of the eye). A confirmed diagnosis must me reported to local public health officials.
