This is an emergent life-threatening condition which results from heat exposure.
A patient presents with an altered mental status and temperature greater than 104 degrees F (40C).
Lab results may show elevated liver function studies, an increase in muscle break down.
Classic types of stories of heat stroke are:
- A young athlete who decides to run in hot weather. He is sweaty and has muscle breakdown.
- An elderly person who is a hot apartment without air conditioning. He is dry with no muscle breakdown.
