This is a serious condition that may be seen during alcohol withdrawal. After an alcohol-dependent person stops drinking, withdrawal may start after 8 hours and peak at 72 hours.
- Hand Tremors
- Increase Heart Rate
- Increase Respiratory Rate
Delirium Tremors includes these withdrawal symptoms plus:
- Altered attention/cognition
3-5% are hospitalized and 1-4% die
Treatment includes benzodiazepines (such as Valium), or Phenobarbital. For more extreme cases, Propofol, Haldol or Dexmedetomidine may be used.
